On Monday, Sep 27, The Recording Academy SF Chapter (of which I’m the President) and the California Music and Culture Association (CMAC) put on the San Francisco Supervisor Candidate Forum, a political discussion focused on issues related to music and nightlife in the city.
The SF Chapter’s advocacy committee put in many hours of hard work along with our friends at CMAC and Barbary Coast Consulting to pull off an event that drew over 200 people to Yoshi’s SF on a monday night.
Bevan Dufty, current district 8 supervisor and mayor hopeful gave an entertaining keynote and we were also fortunate to hear performances from Brad Hughes and Sean Hayes. The event was moderated by Priya David Clemens of KTVU.
I’m proud to have been a sponsor of this first-of-its-kind event and hope to help produce more of these types of events in the future.
Make sure to vote on Nov 2!
On Friday June 25, I’ll be delivering the keynote address for the Soul Music by the Bay Conference. This is the first year for this event and it looks to be a really nice line up of panelists and performances by some talented and experienced music professionals.

Last month, I was elected President of the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy. I’ve served on the board of the chapter for the past 3 years, serving as Secretary and Co-Chair of Advocacy for the last 2 of those years. In that time, we’ve assembled a great team to advance music as an industry and or artists and professionals in the Bay Area. I’m really excited about the chance to take my work there to another level. My two year term begins on May 1.
I’ll be moderating a panel this thursday at Pyramind in San Francisco where we will be discussing the California ABC’s efforts to shut down music venues in San Francisco and elsewhere in the state. It should be a lively discussion with representatives from the clubs, the SF entertainment commission, political candidates and local media. It’s a free event if you RSVP, so please do so here: http://pyramind.com/community/calendar/view/39/85.html
This wednesday, I’m going to be speaking at CHOPS in Santa Rosa as part of a panel on the music industry presented by the Recording Academy. Fellow panelists include Stephen Hart, Shiloh Hobel, George Merrill, Larry Batiste and Trish Robbins, who will be moderating. We will be discussing the current and future state of the music industry. It should be a fun and informative night so come on out and get your learning on.
