About Michael Winger

I spend most of my time working as a music producer. My mom still doesn’t really know what that means.

Being a producer encompasses a wide range of jobs depending on the situation: engineer, arranger, songwriter, therapist, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, programmer, pro tools operator, manager, record label, and probably a few others.

I recently opened a mixing / editing / production room at Broken Radio Studios which is the largest tracking room in the city and also one of the most historic rooms in the Bay Area (formerly known as Coast Studios, Mercury Records and Toast Studios).

I also co-own a mobile recording company called Flying Kitchen Productions with my business partner, Boone Spooner. We record major label and Bay Area bands for live albums and radio broadcast. A number of our recordings have been featured on KFOG’s “Live from the Archives” CD’s and radio shows.

In a former life, (during the 1990’s) I was the lead singer / guitarist / songwriter for a touring rock band called Dayroom, based out of Athens, GA. By the time the band ended in February of 2000, we had averaged 200 shows a year for the 8 years we were together, released 3 albums, toured Europe, got on the radio a bit, won some awards, and somehow managed not to be overly jaded or drug addled by the end of it.

After the band ended, I travelled around the U.S. and India, self-produced a solo album and eventually moved to San Francisco where I live now. I quickly got involved in the music community and began producing artists while working at many live events in the bay area.

In the summer of 2007, I was elected to the Board of Governors for the San Francisco chapter of the Recording Academy, an organization that among its many objectives, advocates for recording artists in Congress, helps musicians in need, funds recovery efforts for the music community in New Orleans and is responsible for the Grammy awards.

Recently, I began to play bass, keyboards (simultaneously, at times) and sing in the power duo, Super Adventure Club. Along with drummer Jake Wood who simultaneously plays keyboards and sings, we comprise the most amazing musical experience you will have ever heard in your life. Your entire life. Like, ever. The two of us are also the rhythm section for Francesca Lee and the New Believers, an artist I began producing in January 2007.
