Recording the Pretenders and Amos Lee

2008-12-18Pretenders

Flying Kitchen recorded KFOG’s Concert for Kid’s at the Paramount Theater in Oakland.

The Pretenders and Amos Lee performed this year and it was a really great show.

I was pleasantly surprised when I ran into my old friend Michael Bellar, who plays keyboards for Amos Lee. I had walked on stage to check a mic connection and saw a familiar face sitting at the keys.

Amos Lee is a really great songwriter in the tradition of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. If he’s ever in your town, check out his show… He’s got a great keyboard player too.

The Pretenders still rock after 30 years, too.

KFOG’s Live from the Archives Vol 15 came out last week featuring 4 songs that I recorded and mixed with my partner, Boone Spooner

Tracks we worked on

David Gray – You’re the World to Me from Oakland Paramount Theater

Feist – 1 2 3 4 From Bimbo’s 365 in San Francisco

Newton Faulkner  – Dream Catch Me from Slim’s in San Francisco

Matt Nathanson – Car Crash at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco

I’d have to say the Feist show was my favorite of the 4.. but Matt Nathanson comes in a close second. They’re also the friendliest folks of the bunch. Anyway, proceeds from the album benefit Bay Area food banks, so click here and get yourself a copy
